Retro Mall Video - Tower City Center

WEWS News, Cleveland (1990)

Video recording of a 1990 TV broadcast segment of the WEWS Channel 5 Eyewitness News, out of Cleveland.

This clip covers the grand opening of the Tower City Center, a large mixed-use facility in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, which includes a shopping mall at its heart. While 1990 isn't all that vintage to me, I dig stuff like this and still found the video quite interesting to watch. Check Wikipedia's Tower City entry for more good background info.

I was there in the fall of '91 - didn't realize it was brand new at that time.

It was very pretty, and very upscale. It's a shame about Higbee's being vacant. They filmed the Santa scene from A Christmas Story in that store. We saw a little plaque and a photo while we were there.

At least someone cared to mention them on Wikipedia...

I almost wonder how much different it could've been if I knew more about Higbee's outside the Christmas Story connection. (Toledo didn't have much besides a few like Lion's, Lasalle's or Tiedtke's as the local department stores people of my parents' and grandparents' generation could recall) :-)

Too bad someone hasn't bothered giving them a Wiki entry. :-(

Doh! The idiots at youtube removed it. Hate when they do that. Gotta watch the vids quick on there as they disappear faster and faster these days (almost everything). :(
