Town & Country Shopping Center construction

Fort Worth, Texas - 1958

Aerial photo of the Town & Country Shopping Center as it looked under construction in 1958. An interesting and raw look at the early stages of a shopping center's development (compare this with the finished, modern aerial view).

Can't find much background on this Town & Country Shopping Center, but it appears it's still around today. I've linked to a current aerial below, and do see some passing references to it being made on Google here and there. Don't see an official website or anything much in the way of solid historical info, so if anyone else out there is familiar with this shopping center I'd appreciate a few details. I'm mainly wondering what year it opened, and also, what its current retail health is like these days--assuming it still has some.

Don't know. Keith. I do know that you and other sites have featured so many different Town and Country shopping centers that maybe everyone is all confused. I know I am!

Hmm, I have lived in Fort Worth my entire life - the only mall that remotely rings a bell would be when "Seminary South" became "Town Center" in the 1980s (I believe..)

This mall is now called "La Gran Plaza". It is now mostly a hispanic neighborhood, and the shops inside cater to this culture. There is a supermarket along with a DHS office, along with a Levines and numerous other shops. Very few shops in this mall are chain, at this point. I am not sure if there is even a strong anchor at this mall anymore.

This shopping center is on the NW corner of Jacksboro Hwy and River Oaks Blvd. Tarrant Co Appraisal District list it as built in 1958. I know of two businesses that have been there since the 70s, Thrift Town and Panchos.

It is pretty impressive to know that it was the early stage of a shopping center. It isn't like the shopping center.
